South Cobb High School now has 3 orchestras: Sinfonia, Philharmonic, and Chamber.
Sinfonia Orchestra is primarily for any student with three or more years of class instruction. Most freshman will be placed in this orchestra. Students will build their technique working towards mastery of three-octave scales, upper positions, vibrato, tone, and intonation. Performs Level III and IV music in concerts. sinfonia.pdf Philharmonic is our largest orchestra that will give less experienced musicians a chance to play with advanced performers. This will also be the ensemble that will perform with students in band classes to play full orchestra works. All students in the South Cobb Orchestra program will perform with this group as a mass ensemble. philharmonic.pdf (potentially 2 sections) Chamber II is open for any student by audition in the spring of each year. Students will build their technique working towards mastery of three-octave scales, upper positions, vibrato, tone, and intonation. Performs Level IV and V music in concerts. Private lessons are strongly recommended. Students are strongly encouraged to own an advanced step-up instrument and bow and keep it maintained with professional quality strings and bows re-haired as needed. chamber_orchestra_ii.pdf Chamber I is the premier orchestra group at South Cobb. Students will perform challenging literature that is usually grade V & VI. The focus for instruction is a deeper level of understanding technique, mature tone, and musicality of the highest level.
